About Center Rutland Depot

Center Rutland Depot  prior to installation of the display track for caboose & speeder

Center Rutland Depot was built in 1917 and was home to both the Rutland Railroad as well as the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. The Rutland had their office on the north side of the depot; the D&H on the south side of the depot.

Carris Reels later took over the depot as their corporate headquarters until 2000, when the Rutland Railway Association was offered a long-term lease.

Museum Pics

In the front room are display cases with various railroad items from conductors hats to telegraph equipment to oil cans and much more.

In the glass case in the main museum room is a copy of the blueprint for the former Rutland City train station as well as pictures of trains at the station. The large picture is taken from above the Rutland yard.

The bell and the headlight are original locomotive equipment from former Rutland Railroad locomotives. In the case to the left are former timetables of the Rutland and its various branches. On the top of the display case are pictures of the former Rutland-owned boats that once serviced the Great Lakes from the Ogdensburg terminal.

Many more pictures still to come!
