| Overview If you enjoy model railroading, you'll want to join the Rutland Railway Association's Model Railroad Committee. We are busily constructing our club's HO scale model railroad, loosely based upon New England railroading. Work sessions are at the Depot on Saturdays at 1pm and Thursdays at 7pm. As soon as construction is complete, we will begin holding operating sessions with a few 2-person crews (Engineer on the throttle and Brakeman responsible for coupling/uncoupling and throwing switches). Upon completion of the HO scale layout, we will refocus our building efforts on the N-scale layout. Committee Chairmen Dan Cross - HO Scale Layout Matt Rockwell - N Scale Layout Committee Members Mike Pockette Monty Butterfield Tom Tomlinson John Gebhardt Carl Graves Murray Grant You! Junior Engineers Program This new section of the RRA Model Railroad Committee is being established for our younger members. They have their own layout in the museum on which to learn the basics of model railroading. Donations We welcome donations of HO and N-scale model railroad items including power packs, locomotives, rolling stock, buildings, kits, plaster cloth, scenery or whatever you're willing to donate. Donations are soon to be tax-deductible. |

Junior Engineers Layout Being Constructed In The MuseumMembers of the RRA Model Railroad Committee spent Saturday April 12th building a 4' x 8' rolling table for an HO-scale model railroad in the museum for our junior members! It is located in front of the bay windows in the museum's main room. Casters on the legs of the table make it able to be rolled out from the wall for easy access to the entire depth of the layout by our junior members and to allow access to the bay windows and air circulation from the baseboard heaters. We
could use all sorts
of donations for this layout, especially HO-scale track, a few HO-scale switches, rolls
of plaster cloth, ground foam and tree kits, a few power packs,
building kits, beginner's locomotives and car sets and so forth.
We would also like to find a volunteer who
could serve as a youth advisor to work with our junior members to help
them build their layout and teach them along the way.
HO Scale Layout Undergoing Re-ConstructionThe HO-scale model railroad is currently undergoing reconstruction, renovation and upgrading. The homasote that the tracks were formerly laid on is being removed and cork roadbed is being laid. The homasote had a tendency to expand and contract with temperature changes in the layout room, causing track mis-alignments and a few derailments. The former hill mine has been gently removed and this formerly under utilized area on the layout will become the "Town of Rockwell", a hillside town complete with various switching opportunities. The city yard is complete and operates far better than it did previously. An addition has been made for a new engine facility including the roundhouse. |
