Caboose Work In Progress
Former Rutland Railroad
caboose #45 with one coat of Rutland red paint (as was typical)
and temporary Rutland markings courtesy of Matt Rockwell
RRA President Ron
Butterfield would like to thank Don and Ginny
Prescott and Dan Cross for their help getting new windows into the old
Rutland caboose.
"Don was instrumental in getting us working on the
caboose this spring when he and Ginny returned from FL. Last year he
bought four new frames for us at considerable expense. Danny
found a
large package of plexiglass for $10 and we were off and
running.
In
order to install the windows, we had to remove two large panels. We all
learned how difficult it is to remove the old screws that have been
painted over repeatedly!! But, success was achieved and we now
have four
windows in place and it looks really spiffy!"
The frames for the cupola are being
worked on by our newest member, Craig Burton, and they should
be done within a month. We need to paint the caboose before the 18th,
so come on down and lend a hand!
Bob
Welker is working on removing layers of paint from grab irons on the
caboose with a grinder. It is slow and tedious work. A newly acquired
wire brush paint stripper should make the work easier. The visual
impact of stripped and repainted grab irons and other hardware on the
caboose should be huge.
Russ Allan has been tarring the edges of the roof and last weekend
arrived with a 5 gallon bucket of tar that he has donated to the club
and it should be adequate to do the entire roof of the caboose.
Roland Fay has been working on installing tie plates and always has
some new story to tell us about the railroad! |
Air Compressor / Pressure Washer
Now Working!
Bob Welker and
Dan Cross recently worked on the air compressor and it's now up and
running! With the addition of a newly - purchased used pressure washer
we'll be in business shortly! |
Center Rutland Depot Desperately
Needs Paint!
The depot needs a coat of paint desperately. If you know of anyone
who'd like to donate to this project, we'd be very happy to receive a
donation of any amount. All donations are tax-deductible. |
Depot's Railroad Clock Now Fixed
Bill has once again fixed our railroad clock for the 3rd time. We now
have it locked so that we won't overwind it again. It's good to have
someone who likes to tinker on projects like this!! |

Depot Pics To Appear In New Movie?
The Rutland Railway Association was
asked by the producers of the new film "Blood In Our Town" to
contribute pictures of the Center Rutland depot as it was in the past
and as it is now. Look for them to possibly be included in the new
movie. |
Rutland
Railroad Museum
We have registered the name "Rutland Railroad
Museum" with the State of Vermont Secretary of State's Office. We
have been contemplating it
for years based upon what we now have as our collection. We are still,
week after week, adding more and more items from the history of the
Rutland Railroad (and the Rutland Railway) to our collection. RRA
Member Matt Rockwell has repainted our sign to reflect this new
tradename registration, and it has resulted in many new visitors. |
Vermont Digital Donates Copier
Peter
Welch of Vermont Digital has donated a badly-needed "new to us"
(used) copier. Our old copier was beyond old, beyond tired and
beyond
economical repair. We profusely thank Vermont Digital for their
donation! |
